Verb "to be"
1. It can be used to describe a noun in
present, past and all other tenses the next way.

helping verb the progressive or continuous tenses:

another combination like: we are.
*And when we
use an action verb after the helping ver to be we must always use –ing to express
in a correct way the verb in action in a continuous tense that can be present
continuous, past continuous or future continuous, etc.
