Interaction in the English language classroom

The English classroom has to be a safe space, a space with rules like:

• Respect
• Tolerance
•  Honesty
• Solidarity 
• Equality

Students have to feel that they can learn in this space, English teachers always have posters, books, colors and different ways to arrange their tables; we usually focus on a constructive interaction where students learn from the teacher and from their peers.

At the time of teaching I usually change my desk of place, so the students can learn in different ways, if I sit in the back and I’m talking to them they will exercise their listening of instructions, if I’m in the front they will be able to focus their attention on my expressions and use of the language. When I’m writing in the board or showing them videos they practice with their sensorial learning.

• The way I work with my students is:
• In teams or pairs.
• Changing them of place constantly.
• Assigning roles.
• Work on projects for general topics
• Having two notebooks one for vocabulary and structures (form of the language) another one for writing (function of the language)
•  I take advantage of technology. We project videos, make investigations on internet.
• Usage of art to express ideas and opinions.
• Reading and storytelling to approach topics.
•  Focusing on the international frame of the language and the exercise of the four skills for the activities.

The main thing that I try on my classroom is to have a space where my kids feel comfortable to work, where they have the confidence to talk and where they feel they are appreciated.

As a teacher that loves teaching my students are my main focus. I try to have a great time with them. I teach in English all the subjects since I work in a bicultural school so I try to apply techniques and strategies using the four skills in a very natural way so my students can see everything that they have learned in a, everyday way, like learning without they realizing they are learning. All the activities have the objective of them using the language.

I play music in English while they work, I praise their work, give them feedback in a nice way and I always help them learn and reach their goals.
